Karma Sidh Shasan Chandra Kinnaur Bodh Vihar

Sarahan Bushhar, P.O. Bonda, Tehsil Rampur, Distt. Shimla,
H.P. 172034, India

In 1989, the Buddhist community in Sarahan offered the Kinnaur Bodh Vihar Temple and land to the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche. They requested him to rebuild a larger temple and establish support to preserve their faith and traditions. The Third Jamgon Rinpoche was pleased and accepted their offer. At a formal ceremony, he bestowed the empowerments of Chenrezig and Buddha Amitayus, and granted the oral transmission of the mantra of Guru Rinpoche. The following year, 1990, the Third Jamgon Rinpoche returned to consecrate the land for the rebuilding of a new temple. He performed the pujas of The Extraordinary Profound Gathering of the Jewels [Tib.Yang Zab dKon mChog sPyi ‘Dus], and the Phud Rabs Cho Ga, a ritual of excellent offerings to please the Three Jewels and the host of protective deities. At the end of the ceremonies, Third Jamgon Rinpoche blessed everyone and urged them, as vajra brothers and sisters, to maintain excellent samaya with each other. It was Third Jamgon Rinpoche’s last visit.

After the parinirvana of the Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche in April 1992, the Jamgon Kongtrul Labrang carried on his wishes. The new Temple was completed in 2001 and the commitment to establish Dharma there continues through qualified lamas and monks of the Labrang.
